Set in Portugal’s Alentejo countryside, Anantara Royal Vila Viçosa Resort is planned as a refined retreat within a carefully restored 16th-century convent. The property is designed around 76 rooms, suites and residences spread across three floors, retaining historic details such as high ceilings, alcoves and original azulejo tiles. Terraced gardens, olive trees and fountains create a calm setting, while indoor and outdoor pools provide space for relaxed days in the sun. Dining is expected to focus on regional character through tasting journeys and wine flights, with the surrounding landscape offering a natural backdrop for slow travel, cultural excursions and private celebrations. Vila Viçosa, known for its Ducal Palace, marble heritage and connections to the House of Braganza, provides the principal historic excursion nearby. The resort is scheduled to open in 2027.
