Capella Kyoto brings Capella’s quietly polished style to Miyagawa-cho, one of Kyoto’s traditional kagai districts beside Gion and close to Kenninji Temple and the Kamo River. Designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates with interiors by Brewin Design Office, the low-rise hotel reads as a contemporary Kyoto townhouse: timber, stone, bamboo, screens, inner gardens and a calm sequence of rooms rather than a grand city lobby. Accommodation is spacious and restrained, with views that may take in temple roofs, old neighbourhood lanes or the surrounding hills; selected suites add private onsen bathing. Dining is a central part of the stay, from SoNoMa by SingleThread and its intimate counter to Yoi for late-night kappo and Lanterne, a French brasserie with a Kyoto sense of detail. Auriga Spa, private onsen rooms, saunas, a fitness centre and curated cultural experiences give the hotel depth beyond its elegant setting.
