MACAM Hotel photo 1

Set in Lisbon between Alcântara and Belém, close to the Tagus riverfront, MACAM Hotel is an unusual hybrid: a contemporary art museum you can sleep in. The project occupies the 18th-century Condes da Ribeira Grande Palace, paired with a crisp modern extension, and the transition between gallery and guest floors is as simple as taking the lift. The hotel has 64 rooms, each individually curated with original works from the Armando Martins collection, built over 50 years and spanning Portuguese and international artists. Room categories range from Palace Rooms with a more intimate, historic feel to Contemporary Rooms in the new wing, plus Studios designed for longer stays. A former palace library now serves as a guest living room and informal meeting point, reinforcing the sense of a private house that happens to hold serious art.
