Mazeej Balad

Mazeej Balad is a small boutique hotel at 11 Mahmoud Bassiouny in Downtown Cairo, set amid the district’s busy streets of cafés, theatres and late-night traffic. The mood is contemporary but rooted in place: minimalist interiors by designer Malak Orfy are paired with nods to the area’s older pension-house charm. Accommodation is limited to five individually themed suites, each styled as a character sketch of Cairo’s downtown life, making the stay feel curated rather than anonymous. Upstairs, a rooftop restaurant serves Egyptian-influenced meals from breakfast through dinner, with wide views over the centre and a calmer rhythm above the street noise; opening hours run late into the night. Hotel reception is 24/7, and the rooftop stays open daily from 10:00 to 01:00.
